We report on the first 40 Gb/s-based OTDM add-drop multiplexing at 160 Gb/s using electrically driven electroabsorption modulators. Error-free operation for all channels is obtained with an average power penalty of 1 dB.
We review two IC-on-PLC integration technologies. One is the integration of 10 Gbit/s driver ICs for compact optical transmitters/receivers. The other is that of multichannel ICs for large-scale PLC switches, which reduces the module size by 3/4.
