An improved technique for tracking principal states of polarization (PSP) independent of the effect of ASE noise was demonstrated. It was also demonstrated that the improved OSNR monitoring methods using this technique reduce effects of PMD and extinction ratio of PBS. The methods showed an OSNR measurement error of less than 0.8 dB even in presence of large PMD.
We investigate a simple DWDM source based on phase- and intensity-modulation. A 31-channel frequency comb with /spl plusmn/1.5 dB power variation, penalty-free operation and operation over 100 nm is demonstrated. The coherent crosstalk concern in real systems is also addressed.
