In this paper, a novel meta-heuristic technique named Symbiotic Organisms Search has been applied to solve different economic dispatch problems while satisfying various inequality and equality constraints. The proposed technique describes the interactive behaviour of various organisms in nature. Symbiotic relationship means two organisms rely upon one another for survival. To validate the performance of SOS algorithm, it has been applied on different test systems. Non-linearities are considered in objective function. The simulation results show the consistency and superiority of this proposed algorithm when compared with other optimization techniques such as Genetic algorithm, Oppositional real coded chemical reaction optimization, Particle swarm optimization, Teaching learning based optimization, Real coded chemical reaction optimization, Hybrid differential evolution with biogeography based optimization and Oppositional invasive weed optimization.
