The fundamental objective of this paper is to deliver a simple, robust and economical solution for the solar water pumping. The topology employed for single stage SPV (solar photovoltaic) array fed water pumping includes a SPV array, 3-phase VSI (Voltage Source Inverter), PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) and the pump. As the SPV array converts the energy of the photon falling on its surface into electrical energy. It acts as a source of electrical energy. Whereas and the PMSM converts the electrical power to mechanical, acts as sink for electrical energy. VSI is used between SPV array and PMSM for the purpose of power processing so that the motor would get the power in its required form. PMSM is controlled using stationary reference frame control. The INC (Incremental Conductance) method is employed to enhance and to optimize the power output from SPV array. This method is one of the various MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) techniques available and gives a good response under fluctuating insolation conditions. This system is modelled using MATLAB/ Simulink and the system performance is visualized under constant and changing irradiation levels.
