The primary objective of this research is to convert a stock motorcycle into a drag strip motorcycle and optimize it for best performance in terms of elapsed time in a quarter mile (1320 feet) drag strip. Stock 2014 Ducati Panigale 899 has been used as a reference motor cycle model. The motorcycle is modeled using several models such as engine model, drivetrain model, tire model, chassis model, throttle control model, and track model to simulate the operation, and to try and bring it close to real-time performance as possible. MATLAB software package is used for optimizing and simulating the motorcycle. First, stock motor cycle models are developed and simulated using the software package, to see the performance and elapsed time in a quarter mile drag strip. Further, optimized models are developed by varying the vehicle parameters to models to simulate and validate the real time performance. This paper gives an approach for optimizing a drag racer motor cycle model. Research is focused on improving the laps timing for quarter mile drag racing, and successfully achieved with the approach taken. A global application algorithm is generated for this research can also be used for the other motor cycle models for simulation, optimization, and validation for a quarter mile run.
