The weight of the LCL filter is a major contributor of the total weight of a high power converter, especially the inverter-side inductor. The design of the inverter-side inductor requires multi-domain optimization in electromagnetic design, weight reduction, and thermal management with the objective of meeting power quality standards. In this paper, the inverter-side inductor, based on Amorphous core is proposed for a LCL filter design, and the design has been validated on a 50-kW, 60-kHz two-level inverter with 3-D finite element analysis and hardware experiments.
