Electrosurgical units are one of most relevant biomedical applications of power electronics used worldwide. Recent advances in power converter topologies and devices enables the design of new systems with improved performance, potentially improving surgical procedures. This paper proposes a boost converter topology featuring GaN devices in order to provide a high-frequency highly-versatile electrosurgical generator. The proposed converter is designed and implemented, proving the feasibility of this proposal during ex-vivo experiments.
