Hybrid DS/FH communication has been paid more and more attentions due to its high spread-spectrum gain efficiency, multiply access performance and interference suppression performance. But the PN codes for DS and FH patterns for FH are always generated separately. In this paper, a new hybrid DS/FH signal generator based on spatiotemporal chaos is presented, in which not only the system security is strengthened by spatiotemporal chaos but also the real time PN codes and FH patterns are generated synchronously through a single mechanism. In this mechanism it is easier to control and change parameters for better security, and the period of PN spread-spectrum sequences and FH patterns are also easier to control and can be arbitrarily long, which is very useful in communication systems. And some analyses about the properties of spatiotemporal chaotic hybrid DS/FH signal generated are also given. The simulation results show that not only the PN spread-spectrum sequences have ideal balance and correlation properties but also the frequency hopping patterns have ideal balance and hamming correlation properties. So this spatiotemporal hybrid DS/FH signal generator is valuable to the communication systems for better security and anti-jamming ability.
