In this paper, we propose the regulation and control of boiler drum level utilizing LabVIEW by employing various control strategies like Feedback, Feedback and Feed forward and Cascade control with Internal model controller (IMC) based PID tuning method. Maintaining boiler drum level plays an important role in thermal power plants in order to protect the boilers from shrink and swell effects. By maintaining a constant drum level, these effects can be minimised and thus performance and efficiency of the system can be improved to a great extent. We compared the time domain characteristics and simulation results of all these control strategies using Control Design and Simulation tool in LabVIEW. Thus it was observed the response of cascade controller is more accurate compared to other control methods.
