This paper presents the performance analysis of a single phase UPQC (unified power quality conditioner) device with a left shunt APF (active power filter) configuration, termed as left shunt UPQC. This device is applied for a special load configuration. One set of load is voltage sensitive with considerable reactive power demand. The other set consist of load which is quite unaffected by voltage disturbances but introduce high harmonic content in the source current. A PAC (power angle control) concept between series and shunt APF parts of UPQC with equal reactive power sharing approach is also implemented with the controller to equalize VA ratings of the two APFs. Also variation in ratings of the left shunt UPQC is compared with a right shunt UPQC with same load configuration and different source voltage condition. The performance analysis of left shunt UPQC is analyzed in MATLAB/SIMULINK and OPAL-RT in terms of different performance parameters such as voltage sag compensation, current harmonics compensation and reactive power compensation.
