In China, some existing IT-based community care systems for diabetes are not cost-effective due to data islands. Introducing cloud computing into a diabetic care system can improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. We designed a cloud-based china's community care system for diabetes involving cloud deployment model, cloud architecture model, and cloud applications model. Architecturally, it integrated open source cloud operating system (OpenStack) and frameworks (Spark, Hadoop, YARN, and Cassandra) into a single cloud platform. The system facilitates the implementation of China's community care services for diabetes. Some key technologies such as integration of multi-sources data, collection and storage of the unstructured data, security of patients' primacy, and big data analysis were included.
