Considering the impact of photovoltaic (PV) source integrated into the distribution network, this paper analyzes the fault current characteristics and feasibility of the conventional current protection and distance protection. A novel protection scheme is then proposed combing the distance protection and the current protection. The effect of voltage drop across the transition resistance produced by the system short-circuit current is eliminated by a certain delay. PSCAD / EMTDC based simulation verifies the proposed protection scheme in a 10kV distribution network with distributed PV integration.
