Quantum computing is an innovative and exciting field at the crossing point of mathematics, computer science and physics. In this paper we used a system dynamics approach to illustrate the impact of quantum computing through a variety of factors. Three main factors, namely optimization, scaling and parallelism, were identified as being the most influential. We then attempted to identify which areas would likely be affected by these factors. Based on this, a conceptual model in the form of an influence diagram was constructed. The influence diagram was utilized in performing a qualitative analysis which resulted in gaining a better understanding of the possible overall impact of quantum computing in the future. We also hope our work will provide other researchers with a helpful demonstration of the concepts of quantum computing in general and the potential benefits gained.
