A fifth-order boost converter design and optimization is presented in this paper. Normally, energy storage elements of the converter are designed keeping the ripples within the limits. Design of the fifth-order boost converter on the basis of ripple constraints alone may result in inferior dynamic performance. In order to meet both dynamic and steady-state performance ripple constraints an ANT colony optimization is proposed in the design of fifth-order boost converter energy storage elements. The proposed design and ANT-colony optimization of the converter is demonstrated through simulations and sample experimental measurements.
