This paper proposes a novel double-stator flux-modulation permanent-magnet (DS-FMPM) motor for electric vehicles. The key of the proposed motor is the double-stator and flux-modulation structure. Due to its special design, more PMs can be adopted, and the useful harmonics of the air-gap flux density are increased, thus improving the torque capability of the proposed DS-FMPM motor. Since the inner stator is located inside, the motor space is fully used. Due to the absence of PMs and windings on the rotor, the cooling condition of the proposed motor is improved. The electromagnetic characteristics of the proposed motor are analyzed by using the finite-element method, confirming the validity of the theoretical analysis.
