SmartX playgrounds for multi-site OpenStack-based cloud (e.g., OF@KOREN and OF@TEIN) have brought several operational challenges including resource-aware orchestration. The default OpenStack Nova scheduler is not aware of locality (i.e., affinity) aspects for multi-site distributed cloud. To partially address this limitation, we discuss about resource-aware orchestration for multi-site cloud, where VMs (virtual machines) and associated functions are efficiently spread and interconnected over multi-site SmartX Boxes. Thus, in this paper, in order to facilitate resource-aware orchestration, we investigate the resource visibility solution for SmartX Boxes. Especially, we attempt to leverage the power of BigData analytics for the proposed visibility solution, which needs to collect and analysis the instantaneous status about both p(physical) and v(virtual) resources by using open-source monitoring tools.
