The Brushless Doubly-Fed Induction Machine (BDFM) offers the merit of high reliability due to its brushless operation. Furthermore, when the BDFM is supplied with a fractionally-rated converter, the total system cost decreases. These characteristics are suitable in the application of shaft generation in which the speed range is strictly limited. This paper proposes a vector control scheme oriented on the power winding flux reference frame to achieve stable stand-alone operation. Detailed mathematical model is introduced before the control structure is explained. Experimental results on steady state and transient performance is carried out to verify the control scheme.
