Tone mapping reduces the high dynamic range of an image to better suit the display capabilities. This paper studies the repetitive application of tone mapping operators, and proposes an iterative approach that dynamically selects a sequence of tone mapping operations from a pre-determined set of operators, which maximizes the quality of the low dynamic range output image in terms of an objective quality indicator. Practical results show that significant improvements can be obtained with the proposed approach, compared to the case where each operator is individually applied.
