Characteristics modes analysis of a combined small antenna consisting of a disk loaded monopole antenna and a notch array with parasitic elements are presented in this paper. This antenna is used for a low-profile orthogonal dual polarization antenna for small indoor Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) base station system at the 2 GHz band of IMT-2000. Two different antennas are layered on the ground plane and are designed to minimize the correlation coefficient. The changes of characteristics modes of each antenna are discussed and the modes allocation are presented for the optimal design.
