An on-body/wearable planar antenna is designed for medical devices. The antenna operates in U-NII worldwide band having reflection coefficient bandwidth of 208 MHz with resonant frequency 5.50 GHz. Geometrical parameters of the antenna are optimized using parametric analysis in CST microwave studio. The antenna has very high gain of 8.79 dB and highly stable gain pattern within the operating band with a gain variation of ≤ 0.286 dB. The estimated SAR value of this antenna is much lower than the FCC specified limit and is ≤ 0.363 mW/g. Power absorbed by the human body is nearly constant in the antenna operating band with a SAR variation of 0.035 mW/g. Antenna performance parameters are independent on the spacing between the antenna and the human body implies highly stable radiation characteristics.
