Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing often requires that a damped sinewave voltage or current be applied to a system. These damped sinewaves may have many different requirements, such as the fundamental frequency, peak amplitude, quality factor or ‘Q’, along with timing requirements. This paper helps develop an understanding of the waveform requirements and then explores design techniques that will result in a design that produces a compliant waveform. A 10 MHz generator design is specifically discussed and achieved.
