In order to apply Fe-Co films with high saturation magnetization to a recording head together with a nano-composite film magnet [1], a lot of researchers demonstrated the deposition of Fe-Co films by using several methods such as a sputtering [2] [3]together with an electro-deposition [4]. This contribution reports the preparation of Fe-Co films by using a PLD (Pulsed Lase Deposition) method. We focused on the relationship between various properties and a spot size of laser beam. It was clarified that a small spot size with the diameter less than 1 mm, which means that a laser beam was focused on the surface of a target, enabled us to decrease the numbers of droplets and improve the surface roughness of samples. We also confirmed that a Fe71Co29 film with the magnetization of approximately 2.4 T at the applied magnetic field of 1400 kA/m could be obtained by using the small spot size.
