This paper proposes a novel sliding mode control method for the global chaos synchronization of identical chaotic systems. As an application of this general procedure, we derive a sliding mode controller for the global chaos synchronization of identical novel four-scroll chaotic systems. The novel chaotic system introduced in this paper is a eight-term four-scroll chaotic system with a cubic nonlinearity. The phase portraits and properties of the novel four-scroll chaotic system are described in detail. The Lyapunov exponents and Lyapunov dimension of the novel four-scroll chaotic system are obtained. The sliding control results for the synchronization of novel four-scroll chaotic systems are illustrated using MATLAB.
