In order to offer more efficient communication service, the 3GPP group has developed the research on Long-Term Evolution system. A key factor to guarantee the quality of service (QoS) in LTE is the handover of user equipment. However, the detection method of mobile terminal in the original standards does not fit the current high-speed scene any more. To address this issue, a novel adaptive algorithm is proposed in this paper. The algorithm introduces a variable to map the UE speed, and different handover parameter configurations are settled to improve the handover performance. In addition, we apply proposed algorithm into two typical scenarios, i.e., the random walk model and the linear model. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce handover failure rate significantly.
