This paper presents beam shaping performance of beam adjustable microstrip antenna arrays (BA-MSAAs) with narrow-with rectangular patch elements. The BA-MSAA consists of a central patch element fed by a feeding line and two parasitic patches with variable reactance circuits (VRCs) adjacent to the center patch. Radiation pattern of the BA-MSAA is controlled by the reactance values of the VRCs. In order to reduce the array size of the BA-MSAA, the BA-MSAAs with narrow-width rectangular patch elements are proposed. Firstly, a three-element BA-MSAA with narrow-width elements is designed. Then, in order to enhance the performance, a seven-element BA-MSAA with narrow-width elements is designed. Beam shaping performances of the proposed BA-MSAAs with narrow-width elements are presented by simulation and measurement.
