The original work on Octagonal Ring Antenna (ORA) was proposed as part of the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) project and there are opportunities to develop the technology for use in mobile communications. This paper provides a preliminary technical assessment of the ORA application to mobile base station. This involves modeling of the ORA antenna array in simulation software package Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Microwave Studio, prototyping and testing of the proposed ORA array in anechoic chamber. The good agreement between the simulation and measurement has validated the prototyped ORA array. The proposed preliminary ORA array has demonstrated its potential use for mobile industry.
