This paper presents a class of routing protocols for vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) called the Intersection-based using time delay factor to forecast road weight Routing Protocol (IWRP), Routing strategy firstly sent packets to the intersection nodes which have enough cache and powerful computational abilities. The random distribution of vehicles on the road which obeys Poisson Distribution made it easy to get the optimal connection distance and the connection probability. Then intersection node Calculate time-delay factor to predict the road weight. Moreover, regarding the problem of abrupt link interruptions, optimized greedy algorithm with carry-forward mechanism is used to improve the performance of packet delivery ratio and delay. We validate the accuracy of our model through simulations NS-2.35. IWRP had more advantage in terms of packet delivery rate and average delay compared with GPSR (carry-forward).
