To deal with the fusion failure problem of multiple location points in case of multiple emitters, a new location method by position information field (PIF) is presented. Firstly, the location precision by measuring two-dimensional directions is analyzed, and the covariance matrix of position error is deduced. Then, through the choice of different kernel functions the emitter PIF function is constructed. The position and number of emitters are estimated through grid searching technique. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the method on multi-emitter location and better location performance of the Gaussian type kernel function.
