The study attempted the method of combining ASTER and field spectroscopy for lithological mapping in the Eastern Section of Gangdise, Tibet, China. The field spectroscopy data was used to determine the representative lithological types, and the ASTER image was used to run lithological classification. With the correlation between their spectrums verified, the two remote sensing techniques proved to show their strengths in the task of lithological mapping. The test case manipulated in the specific Mingze mineral zone has briefly validated the effectiveness of the proposed plan for lithological mapping.
