Due to the presence of customers using instantaneous loads (e.g. X-ray machines), the negative impact in the quality of power faced by electric utilities is significant. In fact, such an impact has an important relevance in regulated power markets where quality service and quality powers are rigorously controlled. Moreover, the sampling rate of traditional energy meters does not register the energy consumption of instantaneous loads. The behavior of some clients in Ecuador ?? regularized by the Radiology Institute of Ecuador-, which uses instantaneous loads, is investigated via the installation of network analyzers in order to demonstrate the importance of monitoring or controlling special-needs clientele. In this work, a simple mechanism for improving the power, service quality, and energy consumption measurement of this particular type of client is proposed by taking advantage of the infrastructure as well as the various benefits and applications that an already successful operating AMI system contains.
