This article proposes an improved H.264 adaptive intra error concealment algorithm, which enables relatively good smoothness for reconstructed image and effectively restores edge information at the same time. This algorithm adaptation chooses spatial pixel average and edge-detection-based error concealment algorithm, improves the traditional edge detection algorithm, and proposes directional weighted algorithm based on adjacent edge information. By such means as area selection, luminance signal interpolation and block position detection, the computation of decoder is effectively decreased and the difficulty in engineering application is solved. Two schemes are designed at H.264 standard test platform JM86 and verified. The result indicates that this algorithm is simple and practical, suitable for real-time processing. The peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) is 3dB higher than that with traditional method. The subjective and objective quality of reconstructed image is improved and so the application value is pretty high.
