Electric motors are operated with cyclical loading on Nodding Donkey oil pump. This varying load impacts motor efficiency, energy consumption which is the largest part cost for the operation of oil-well pumping units. And high loss of energy is a common and urgent problem in all oil fields. Based on the research on beam pumping units operating, this paper presents a novel method of energy saving, which is to regulate frequency of motor to save the energy which motor produces while the load on oil-well pumping units drives the motor. Simulations are carried out by using the Fuzzy PD controller and Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) regulator to compare the behavior of the system under these two techniques. The results of the actual experiment show that about ten percent of efficient power can be saved by using Fuzzy PD controller and the Fuzzy PD controller is more cost-effective, practical, reliable and simpler.
