Soil respiration rates were measured during 2006 to 2009 using a soil respiration chamber connected to a portable photosynthesis system (CI-301). Vegetation succession on Hailuogou deglaciered area is serially divided into 7 stages: (1) herbs community, (2) Salix-Populus sapling forest, (3) Populus young forest, (4)deciduous and broad-leaved forest, (5) coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest,(6) Abies-Picea middle age forest (7) coniferous forest. The series of soil CO2 flux were: 48.48, 38.33, 54.52, 57.80, 83.33, 111.12 and 151.75 kg CO2hm-2 d-1, respectively. Environmental variation affects soil respiration rates. Seasonal change in soil respiration is influenced by one principal environmental factor, temperature. Soil respiration rates vary exponentially with increases temperature.
