We present here a flexible, general purpose data acquisition system for clinical application to head trauma. Computerized physiological monitoring and data storage for neurological intensive care has been developed. The system continously monitors the function of the central nervous, cardiac and hemodynamic, and respiratory systems, and allows clinical neurological evaluations and laboratory blood analyses to be manually entered into the system. Both clinical observations as well as continuous monitoring arecombined in the final continuous electronic patient log. The system Is currently capable of monitoring eight analog channels and ninteen manually entered parameters. An object-oriented programming language was used to create the intuitive human interface and a virtual instrument
