For years among Spanish people has existed the concept that research was something rather alien. The slogan “Let them be the ones to invent” coined by the Spanish philosopher Miguel de Unamuno, took roots in the Spanish society. At present, due mainly to a change of mentality and to the overall economic development of the industry more and more companies and organizations are starting to value and promote research as a fundamental basis for progress across the country. Surely the majority of Spanish people have the notion that major scientific production related to information technology and telecommunications always arose from other points outside of Spain. However, we can find along the XVIII to XX centuries a set of pioneers and established researchers who developed concepts and original inventions that can be considered as precursors of new information technologies and communications.
