In this abstract a new method for detecting trace explosive compounds using a micro differential total analysis system (DTA) is presented. Trace explosive detection has become a predominant research activity in recent years and there is a demand for fast reliable screening methods to secure public safety. Micro DTA facilitates recording of a calorimetric profile for nanograms of materials. The profile comprises a combination of sublimation, melting, evaporation and deflagration for the sample material. Using this profile it is possible to distinguish explosives from non explosives and to have selectivity between explosives.
