A rectangular dielectric-metal strip composite resonator antenna with TE mode is introduced. The value of approaches zero for a dielectric with high permittivity. The TE mode has been explored with the possibility of a radiating mode in the hybrid dielectric-air resonator antenna with good radiation efficiency and broadside pattern. Owing to special electric field distributions, the resonant frequency of the TE mode is mainly determined by the dimension along the -axis and relatively stable regardless of changes in length along -axis. The proposed antenna has an impedance bandwidth of 85 MHz at 3.5 GHz and a gain of about 5.72 dBi. A prototype is fabricated and measured. Measured and simulated results show high accordance.
