This paper presents a new approach to optimal load coordination in hybrid bi-axis drive systems. The idea is to utilize the regenerated energy from decelerating motors to supply other loads on a common DC bus. In this study, we applied a genetic algorithm to find the optimal time delay between the operations of two permanent magnet motor-drives in order to minimize the amount of energy purchased from the utility grid. The results indicate that optimal coordination significantly improves the performance and efficiency of the system.
