The paper presents the development of a generic simulation model on MATLAB/Simulink platform of an electric vehicle (EV). The components of the model such as the vehicle model, driver model, drivetrain model and the battery model are individually studied and modeling equations developed. The model accuracy is validated by comparison with the dynamometer test results on the motor. The model is employed to predict the performance for urban drive conditions and the results are discussed. Simulations like this will help in decreasing the time involved in the design phases.
