In this work we develop a fully five-dimensional (5D) reconstruction approach based on B-spline modeling for cardiac gated dynamic images. The goal is to obtain a single sequence showing simultaneously both cardiac motion and kinetic tracer distribution change over time from one acquisition. The proposed approach is demonstrated in the context of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), where the challenge is great due to the under-determined nature of the problem and increased imaging noise. Our evaluation results demonstrate that the 5D reconstruction procedure can lead to accurate reconstruction of gated dynamic images for both cardiac motion and perfusion defect detection.
