This study describes dynamic characteristics of a linear electromagnetic actuator for Electric Vehicle Relay(EV-Relay). Axi-symmetric finite element analysis was performed to obtain electromagnetic properties of the actuator. A displacement-force relationship was also calculated under condition of applying constant magnetomotive force(mmf) and its validity was confirmed by experimental result. A 3-dimensional finite element analysis was performed to make sure whether the axi-symmetric analysis of open-frame yoke is reasonable. Based on static magnetic field analysis, a governing electric and a kinematic equation were solved using time difference method in order to obtain dynamic characteristics of the actuator. The computation results were compared with experimental results.
