This paper discusses a new configuration of chipless tags. For the first time we introduce a novel tag structure that can be coded in its volume an in its surface. The information coding of the surface is obtained via metallic forms that encompass a specific electromagnetic signature, somewhat quite similar to already published chipless tags. The information coded in the volume is obtained thanks to a multilayer structure operating in the THz domain. So the quite versatile tag that can be coded both on volume and on surface. Simulation and experimental results are reported in this paper for both configurations. We demonstrate the operating under RF with a coding capacity of 2.3 bit/cm2. We also demonstrate the operating of a 2-bit THz configuration.
