Conventional load flow methods for transmission networks are not so efficient for distribution networks because of the special characteristics of the latter networks. The conventional transmission load flow methods such as Newton-Raphson or Fast-Decoupled might not converge in the case of distribution networks. Therefore, it is essential to utilise special load flow methods for distribution systems. This paper presents the methods introduced for solving distribution load flow problem. The inefficiency of the conventional methods is presented and the necessarily modification are discussed for distribution applications. A brief history of developed methods is then presented.
