Technological developments have led to an increase in the electromagnetic field (EMF) radiations. Several reports and theories exist about the biological effects of EMFs. Decrease in melatonin level is possibly one such biological effect. Melatonin is released by pineal gland, located in midbrain. In this paper, the current distribution, induced by power lines in the human head was modeled using FEM. In MRI images, different layers of the head were separated by applying image processing techniques and the induced current distribution was computed in these layers. The modeling results show pineal gland is stimulated greatly in the presence of EMFs because of its specific anatomical location.
