Quality control of the industrial color printer is still based on the judgment of human operators, while most of the other manufacturing activities are automated. This paper presents a quality control scheme by integrating a visual control stage based on image processing. To evaluate the print characteristics on the basis of scanned microsamples of the printing sheets, it is necessary to carry out the segmentation of particular color regions. The accuracy of the evaluation of the print characteristics strongly depends on the successful segmentation of the colored regions involved in a print sample.
