In this letter, the performance of several adaptive AQM schemes has been evaluated for congestion control in wireless ad hoc networks. A new active queue management algorithm based on RED, called AHRED has been designed and compared with different AQM schemes such as Drop-Tail, RED, SRED, and REM. AHRED uses a packet drop probability function based on hazard function to prevent congestion which behaves rapidly according to the density of traffic load. AHRED scheme becomes gentler than RED at light traffic load but more aggressive at heavy load. Simulations demonstrate that AHRED achieves high performance in wireless ad hoc networks.
