Saari's concept of ldquoflying imagesrdquo was realized with ultrashort-pulsed needle beam arrays. By applying reflective phase-only spatial light modulators, two-dimensional image information was programmed in pseudo-nondiffracting sub-beams of extremely high aspect ratio and propagation stability.
