As a motor designed for electric vehicles (EVs), the stator-doubly-fed doubly salient (SDFDS) motor has the advantage of regulating the field flux independently and effectively. To satisfy the demands of high efficiency and fast torque response in wide range of velocity for EVs, a loss model based controller (LMC) is used to realize the on-line efficiency optimization and high dynamic response of SDFDS motor. Since the drivepsilas performance depends on the accuracy of the loss model which is significantly affected by the parameter variations and simplifying assumptions, the loss model parameters are identified by the least-squares algorithm with the measured data in this paper. Based on the identified loss model, both the simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
