MIMO radar is a new concept that has recently been proposed as an extension to the multi-static radar concept. In the following paper we apply the concept of direct position determination (DPD) to MIMO radar in order to explore the effect of the transmit diversity on the target position determination accuracy. It is shown that under low signal to noise ratio (SNR) conditions the results of the MIMO radar DPD improve the estimation accuracy by more than an order of magnitude with respect to conventional, geolocation method.
