In this paper we will present the current status of the cooperative relaying work in the WINNER project. First, we will describe the studied cooperative relaying schemes and corresponding assessment results for different concept group scenarios. Then we will introduce the challenges that have to be solved when integrating cooperative relaying into the WINNER system concept. In particular, we will illustrate the different functions of the WINNER system that will be affected differently as compared to "conventional" relaying. Finally, we will propose possible solutions on how to integrate cooperative relaying within these functions.
